GEORGE: Hi, my name is George and I'm a physician assistant. I work with Dr. Veninga. I would like to start talking to you about what you should expect on the day of surgery. You should arrive to the hospital about an hour and a half to two hours before your schedule surgery time. You will be asked to not drink or eat anything past midnight the night before. Once you are out of the hospital you will be taken care of by good nursing staff and they'll prepare you for surgery and make sure you're comfortable. After that, the anesthesiologist, Dr. Veninga, myself will stop by to answer any last questions and clarify any details. You'll find yourself waking up in the recovery room after the surgery. Once you're cleared you'll go back to day surgery where if you'll need to you'll have to go and do a barium swallow test, which is to show that the lap band is functioning properly. If everything is looking good, Dr. Veninga or myself will stop by and go over last minute details and your post-op instructions and then you'll be ready to go home.
