The da Vinci™ Surgical System

Robotic surgery is an outstanding complement to Dr. Veninga's laparoscopic techniques, providing a minimally invasive approach to treatment that can use as little as one incision to gain access to the abdomen during surgery.
Dr. Veninga is a trained expert in the da Vinci™ Surgical System, an advanced technology that uses an operating console to control four robotic arms fitted with surgical tools. During surgery, a tiny laparoscopic camera is inserted into the surgical site, allowing Dr. Veninga to monitor the operation on a large screen. Specially articulated heads allow the tools to rotate and turn, performing movements similar to a human wrist, but on a much smaller and more precise scale.
Our wrists have a limited range of motion and their size can further limit a surgeon's operating ability. In addition to overcoming these limitations, the da Vinci™ system uses high-definition 3-D video that enhances visibility during an operation.
