Body mass index (BMI) is the relationship of a person's height and weight. Candidates for obesity treatment at our bariatric surgery program include Dallas, Plano, and Lewisville residents who have a BMI greater than 40 or are 100 pounds (45kg) above their ideal weight. Individuals who have a BMI of 35 to 40 may also be eligible if they have one of five co-morbidities.

Dr. Frank Veninga is a native of Dallas, Texas who has dedicated himself to helping patients overcome the diseases and social stigma related to obesity. Our board-certified surgeon has advanced training and specializes in abdominal surgery. Dr. Veninga practices state-of-the-art bariatric surgery at the Trinity Medical Center (TMC) in Carrollton. Dr. Veninga and TMC have been designated by the Surgical Review Corporation/ American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. He also practices at the Dallas Surgery Center and the Presbyterian Hospital of Plano. In recognition of his standing in the medical community, D Magazine named Dr. Veninga as one of "The Best Doctors in Dallas 2007" in bariatric surgery after conducting a poll of area physicians.
