The REALIZE™ Band – A True Long-term Weight Loss Solution

What Makes the REALIZE™ Adjustable Gastric Band Different?

 

The REALIZE™ Adjustable Gastric Band is made of strong, safe silicone and is used to divide the stomach into two parts.  Food is immediately routed into the upper, smaller section of the stomach; because it holds significantly less food than the original stomach, patients tend to feel full quicker and longer.  Unlike gastric bypass surgery, which permanently alters the anatomy of the stomach, the REALIZE™ Band can be adjusted at any time to control caloric intake and can even be removed altogether.  Once the band is situated properly around the stomach, saline is inserted through a port to adjust its size.  Silicone can be added or removed, depending on the needs of the patient, without further surgery.

In clinical trials, the REALIZE™ Band has compared favorably to the LAP-BAND® System in many key safety tests.  What truly distinguishes the REALIZE™ Band from similar devices, however, is the REALIZE mySUCCESS™ support system that is integral to successful long-term weight loss.

REALIZE mySUCCESS™

 

There is no instant solution to morbid obesity.  Weight loss surgery is an effective aid, but long-term weight loss requires patients to commit to a lifetime of healthier eating and living.  One of the reasons that Dr. Veninga has decided to offer the REALIZE™ Band at his Carrollton, Texas practice is that the treatment includes a unique and highly effective support system to guide his patients toward a more healthful lifestyle: REALIZE mySUCCESS™.

REALIZE mySUCCESS™ is an interactive web-based program that is designed to “support, inform, encourage, and enable.”  It doesn’t dictate your lifestyle changes to you; rather, it serves as a resource and facilitator as you create your own customized diet and fitness routines.  It will also serve as a liaison between you and Dr. Veninga, giving him access to your progress and enabling him to suggest in-office visits as he finds them necessary.  The four parts of the mySUCCESS™ system – myPersonalPlan, myProgress, myNutrition, and myFitness – were designed by healthcare professionals to give REALIZE™ Band patients a powerful means of ensuring their long-term success.

REALIZE™ Band Weight Loss Surgery Procedure at Our Carrollton, Texas Practice

REALIZE™ Band weight loss surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed laparoscopically.  The laparoscopic technique allows Dr. Veninga to work through several small incisions, with the aid of a tiny camera that projects images to a video monitor.  Because the incisions used in laparoscopic surgery are so small, there are fewer and less visible scars than with traditional surgery, as well as a significantly shorter recovery period.

Once Dr. Veninga has placed the REALIZE™ Band around the stomach, he adjusts it through the insertion of a safe saline solution.   The saline is inserted through a port that will be sutured approximately two inches below the rib cage.  Through this port, Dr. Veninga will be able to make future adjustments to the amount of saline in the band without the need for further surgery.  Additional surgery will be necessary only if you experience complications with the band or decide to have it removed.

At no point during the surgery will any part of the stomach be removed or permanently altered.
